In fact, it is currently the only viewer capable of opening and interacting with any type of PDF file while ensuring the integrity of its format at all times. Due to its ease of use and wide range of tools, it is the most downloaded program for handling this type of documents. What is Adobe Reader and what is it used for?Īdobe Reader is a popular free application developed by Adobe from which you can view, open, sign, interact with, and share any PDF file. This is everything you need to know about Acrobat Reader. And it is because of its compatibility, wide selection of tools, and intuitive usability that the program has gained the trust of companies and individuals worldwide who are looking for a fast and secure way to share documents. Developed by Adobe and compatible across different platforms and operating systems, Adobe Acrobat is the industry standard for creating and verifying PDF documents. And technically, you could only have 64-bit Reader installed but then you can't have Acrobat 64-bit (CC 2022) I think.Joe Wainer Updated 17 days ago The most comprehensive and downloaded free PDF viewerĪdobe Reader is the free PDF reader with which you can open, read, interact with, and sign documents quickly and easily. Adobe would probably keep releasing 32-bit Reader updates for a while, but halt that eventually. It sounds like no more separate Reader and Acrobat on the same machine, not for 64-bit at least. That's making more sense, but what a pain. It's nudging a select group of users into having to buy an Adobe ID. I guess that person is going to need an enterprise Adobe ID purchased for them. If you have someone without the enterprise Adobe ID who only needs to view PDFs, and the machine only has Acrobat and not Reader anymore. And they have to have an enterprise Adobe ID in order to do that. So anyone who does anything with PDFs on that machine can only use Acrobat now. That requires an enterprise Adobe ID to use the software. And then 64-bit "Reader" (or Acrobat lite) can't be installed with Acrobat CC 2022 maybe? The end result is just about the same product, except 64-bit Reader doesn't install the Creative Cloud app? But which would you install? A user might need to edit PDFs, so that's Acrobat CC 2022. If that requires an enterprise Adobe ID sign in just to start Acrobat, then you must do that. Then it's Acrobat and can edit PDFs? But if you install Acrobat CC 2022, you also get the Creative Cloud app. If you install 64-bit Reader, it's a lite/view only version, but you could sign in. I haven't tested it, but it's making more sense. I think Photoshop CC can co-exist with Acrobat Reader 2020 but I'm too lazy to test. Because reading PDF is a necessity we were forced to buy Acrobat Pro for all users that have other CC licenses. It keeps trying to sign in automatically then fail since the user isn't licensed. The CC application you mentioned in another thread makes non-licensed 64-bit Acrobat Reader crap out for us if the user has another license such as Photoshop. Acrobat's language packs is another huge issue for us since Acrobat and the language pack must versoin match, but they're not always released simultaneously and we often get version mismatch warnings. Acrobat Reader 2020 is actually really good since it's smaller and faster (CC keeps getting more bloated every day), doesn't show any unusable trial tools or ads, and has full foreign language support built in. Right now for my organization all users have Acrobat Reader 2020, and those with Pro licenses just use Acrobat Pro CC. Unfortunately I'm in Asia and we can only use Acrobat because of the extensive non-English language support.
